The end

Okay, final post: the project is now officially over! Stuff has been handed in, feedback has been given, and everyone is happy! :D

It's been great working together as a professional group for our first proper animation, I think we've learned a lot over the last few weeks, and it's been stressful, but definitely worth it seeing how it all came together.

Congratulations everyone and have a good summer! ^^

Final version

Hey guys,

Yes!
We have a finished film that looks and sounds awesome.
I have a compressed version on vimeo which I got down to about 130MB (the uncompressed is nearly 4 gig!) check it out HERE

Thursday 5 May 2011

Almost done! Hand in requirements

The edit has been completely assembled and Lukas and Oscar are almost done with the sound effects! This means that by tomorrow afternoon the film should be 100 % complete and all ready to burn to DVD!

Good work, everyone! =)

Don't forget that for the hand in on Monday you all need to bring your individual portfolios. These need ALL your research and sketchbook work, and including for example a print screen image from the final version of the scene you've worked on is a nice thing to add.

You ALL need to write a 500 word evaluation so don't forget to add that!

I'll assemble the group portfolio (I have a portfolio we can use) since I've got all the documents and stuff that needs adding on my laptop.

YOU ALL NEED TO BE IN B124 AT 10:00 AT THE LATEST SO WE CAN HAND IN THE DVD TOGETHER.

Also, on myUCA there's a post about the feedback for the unit. It's REALLY important that everyone is in uni on the Tuesday so that we can divide the marks between us. I think they mean the following Tuesday so...

EVERYONE MUST ALSO BE IN B124 AT 10:00 ON TUESDAY THE 10TH OF MAY.

Monday 2 May 2011

Portfolios!

Hi all, this post is just to make you all aware that we DO need BOTH an individual and a group portfolio!

All assessment requirements can be found on myUCA under the "Movement, Story & Structure" unit and on the "Unit Assessment" tab on the left.

The page states:

As a group you should submit one portfolio which serves as a record of your films development. As an individual you need to also submit a portfolio that reflects your input to the production – character designs or backgrounds, sound design or storyboarding for instance

On Tuesday we'll both be doing editing and sorting out what we need to put in the group portfolio, which will be storyboards, scripts, and basically all our development. We need a portfolio to use as our group portfolio, which should include plastic sleeves. If anyone has a portfolio to spare which looks presentable, then let me know, and bring it along to class tomorrow!

Ooooo, here ae a few front dvd covers i was experimenting in PS!!!
Holla at me and lemme know what ya'll think!!!

End of Easter Break

Hi all! It's now the end of Easter break and the deadline is only a week away (Monday 9th)!

Our next lesson is Tuesday the 3rd, 10:00 in B124, for pre-assessment tutorials. We are going to spend the day editing, and the rest of the week. The library have extended opening hours next weekend but we should aim for completion at Friday at the latest.

Lukas, Andrew and Amber: Bring ALL your files on Tuesday, preferably on your laptops.

Since it's a public holiday on Monday, the library will be shut, but me, Lukas and Andrew will meet up for editing (and whoever else wants to come along).

Andrew, the rough edit needs to have been done! If you bring your laptop when we meet up on Monday I can also help you masking the character in AE. I'm back in Norway now so I can send you a message with time and place.

Office scenes coloured.

Greetings Lord and Lady Creatures,

Figured it'd be best to post this here - The two office scenes are now complete.
There are still faults with the scene, but we are running out of time now - if we spend too long perfecting scenes, then we won't have anything to hand in.
The colour for the bathroom door is done - i used the light grey for the mans shirt to colour the door, and the rouser grey to colour the man in the symbol. I have asked Jen if she can produce a watercolour background, because we all seemed to forget that scene had a background.

On editing:
If you did your scene in aftereffects, send me the quicktime for the movie. If you followed my specifications, then I need those images now.
As it stands, I have four complete scenes - the two office scenes, the eating scene, and the man lowering his watch. I have five clocks with times (three for the nightstand, to for microwave), and two without times (the car radio and the computer monitor).
In other words, I'm missing three quarters of the footage.
I know Jen said you had until today to do the colouring, but I would like to simply remind you that we have nine days left.
So, simply put, please upload that footage as quickly as possible. When you upload the footage to Dropbox, please notify me through text, or by commenting on this entry.

OKAY...
THIS IS ONE OF THE FEW DVD COVERS I HAVE DESIGNED

Wednesday 20 April 2011

Important note!

Good day, Lord and Lady creatures!
When you are colouring, or if you are still scanning your frames, please leave in the holes at the bottom of the sheet, even after removing the background or whatever - this is simply a way of making the compillation of frames easier, as it's simply a matter of overlaying the holes in flash. If you have already removed these holes from the frames, if you would kindly add markers onto the bottom of the sheets where the holes should be.
And to answer the questions that may spring to your mind, no, you won't be able to see the holes in the final film, since the bottom part of each sheet of paper does not fit into the aspect ratio. And the reason that I have only just decided to mention this is because I didn't think I would have to, as I viewed this as common sense. The I just realised that what I deem common sense may seem strange to others.

If you are still scanning, If you would kindly take into consideration the following:
  • Scan in Black and white
  • Scan at 200dpi
  • Do not scan at 1024 by 576 - leave the aspect ratio alone when scanning.

When you are colouring:
  • Scale the image to 1024 by 736 - DO NOT CROP THE IMAGE TO FIT THE ASPECT RATIO!
  • Leave the holes in the bottom of the paper.
  • Save as a PNG file, to keep transpancy

If you have already done all of this, Thank you.
If you haven't done this, if you would kindly do so, I would be very grateful.

Yours sincerely,
   Andrew Stalley.

Update! What to do in the Easter break...

Hi all, hope you're enjoying your holiday!

Here's how we stand so far in the production:

So we only have the colouring left, and of course the editing. All shots MUST BE COLOURED BEFORE THE 30TH OF APRIL!

As soon as you complete your shot, stick the files on Dropbox and give Andrew a mail or text message as he will assemble the basic edit. Lukas will then continue working with the edit on the 1st or 2nd of May.

Amber, Lukas and Andrew, if you have any issues with the colouring, just send me an email!

Monday 11 April 2011

Colouring Tutorial!

The colouring tutorial I mentioned is up, and under a seperate page called...Colouring Tutorial (surprise) ^^

So take a look, those of you who are going to be colouring =)

Group meeting

Hi again!

Next group meeting will be this Thursday and will probably be our last group meeting together before the Easter holiday!

Since we have our digital skills deadline between 10:00 and 10:30 we will have our meeting at 11:00 in GO1.

It will probably be a short meeting but it's important to show up so we can go through one last time the stuff that needs doing in the Easter holiday.

See you all there (and good luck with digital skills!)!

Characters Colour Design

Ive posted the characters coloured turn around with a simple colour chart on the animation bible, sorry about it being later than i said Jen

Friday 8 April 2011

Colouring!

Hi, here are just some suggestions for colouring....

Should we have the lines all black? Or slightly brown/grey, not completely black so they will blend better with the watercolour backgrounds since they are quite subtle...

Also, I know we are colouring them mainly flat with the paintbucket tool, but it would be great to layer some texture over the top, it's quite easy and makes a huge difference!

Example (untextured and black lines on the top, textured skin with slightly grey line art on the bottom...also not final colours, just something I picked to test out):

If we use textures, I have a few I've already saved from cropping out bits of the watercolour paper, which I can send to everyone doing colouring.

PS: I know my monitor is really dark so I have no idea what this looks like on anyone else's monitor... =/

Also, Lukas, I need the colour chart up NOW >_<

But I'm guessing something like this? (again, who knows, this might look terrible on another monitor...):

An Apology...

Hello Lord and Lady Creatures!
....I have an apology to make. I am afraid that, due to my own stupidity and fault, I did not have the frames I was supposed to bring in for the last few seconds of animation. I am so sorry for this - I did bring in the frames I did to fix the problems, but I didn't bring the others - I kinda forgot I had kept those to fix them. I am extremely sorry for this.
I also have to apologise to Oscar, because apparently the hands keep vanishing. Sorry for that.
If you wish me to do anything else for compensation for this, feel free - I did just kinda screw up the schedule.
However, on the subject of animation, I will be adding every piece of animation I have done for this project on my blog tomorrow. And another note on that - I did add the extra frames for the door, but it now looks worse. It'll be on my blog tomorrow, so go view it then (best go check in the afternoon).

    Apologies again,
       Andrew.

Thursday 7 April 2011

Next week

Hi everyone,

Next week we have class on Monday at 10:00 in B124.

Emelia, please bring all your papers =)
Oscar, remember to bring the stuff you've inked so we can finally get going on the colouring!

See you all there!

By the way, this is approximately how far we've got (Oscar has already inked some of this, and Andrew is basically done with his scenes, so we have come further than it looks, BUT there's still all the colouring to do! Hope the chart makes sense...):

Tuesday 5 April 2011

Next meeting!

Hi all! Next group meeting will be THURSDAY at 11:00 in Go1.

Until then, please keep working on your line tests and bring all your finished paper on Thursday so Oscar can take it and ink it for next Monday.

It's only 1 1/2 more weeks until Easter so we have to work hard now to finish all line tests and inking before the holiday starts!

Thursday 31 March 2011

Updated production overview

Hi again! Here's another production overview I've made to make it clearer what needs doing. I'll be printing out some of these and ticking things off as we go along =)

Excel documents can't be uploaded so here's a print screen version (click on it for larger version):

Wednesday 30 March 2011

Update! And reminders for what needs to be done

Hello everyone.

Nice to see some line tests coming along well, keep updating from the feedback you were given today!
Since Blogger occasionally has issues uploading captures to, please post them on our Dropbox =)

Next meeting in class is next Tuesday, this is with Andy at 10:00 in B124, but I expect to see most of you in GO1 again next Monday, at 1:00. I expect everyone except Emelia to be there (because she has a veeery long way to travel, but if she can make it too then that is good.) ^^

Lukas:

Keep working with watercolouring the backgrounds. We need both the daytime version and the nighttime version of the alarm clock finished.
But most importantly, the railroad scene needs improvement. Add the "anticipation" at the beginning and work on the bending down bit =)

Oscar:

The morning scene is great and you can start inking this.
The getting into bed scene still needs a lot of work though, work on it from the feedback given today, then do a cleaner version.

Andrew:

Improve the scene using the feedback from the piece of paper I gave you. Some things are more important than others, like keeping the head consistent (same oval shape, no shrinking). Also remember to fix the tie to the right shape =)
Once you've done it and recaptured and think it looks good, do the clean up drawings. If possible, before the clean up drawings, post your latest capture on Dropbox (and make a post on Blogger just to know it's been added) so we can look at it again to see if anything needs changing before you clean them up. Oscar needs the cleaned up drawings Tuesday at the latest so he can ink them.

The door scene also needs the door to open wider. You don't need a huge amount of frames, you can still have a door be half open and close fairly quickly =)

Amber:

We need the car scene! Work hard on this and give us a good line test on Monday! =)
We also need the slipper scene cleaned up.

Emelia:

Get the latest line tests posted up, and we'll give you feedback as to what can be changed. You might need to do clean up drawings for these for Tuesday. Bring all your papers on Tuesday, especially the background, so I can trace it and me or Lukas will watercolour it =)

Saturday 26 March 2011

Next meeting, Line Tests etc

Hi all! This is a reminder that our next meeting is Monday 10:00 in B124.

Bring ALL YOUR ROUGH LINE TESTS or you won't get any chocolate! ^^

Also, could everyone please bring along a couple of pounds for Lukas who has bought 2 watercolour pads for us (we need that many) and these are quite expensive so we should divide the cost between us.

For those of you who have already captured your line tests, please post these on our new seperate page called "Line Tests"! =)

PS: Oscar, I need the dialogue recorded as soon as possible, so please bring this on Monday!

IMPORTANT:

We now only have 3 more weeks until the Easter holiday and can't afford to fall behind since we also will have the digital skills deadline coming up. Everyone must work very hard this week so we can finish off the line tests as quickly as possible and start colouring in in Photoshop!

I expect to see as many as possible of you in GO1 this week doing line testing!! And it's also preferable that we work there together as a group EVEN IF the lightboxes aren't exactly the brightest and you prefer working at home etc.

So please work hard with these line tests so when we're done with this I might reward you with some cookies^_^

Tuesday 22 March 2011

Oscar; Update

Hey peoples,

The alternate ending is up for Lucas' viewing. It's not a masterpiece.. but it gives you an idea.
I've also uploaded a "How to Build Man" guide onto the Bible, I think I'll put it here too:

Hope it helps! Good luck with the animating.
I notcied that the character has no fingers so...is it going to remain like that at all times then? just to be on the safe side.

Office animation rough #1

Greetings, Lord and Lady Creatures!
I have uploaded the rough animation for my scene, and it is now avalible on my blog - If you wish for me to upload it here, please say.  Remember to comment if youy see any flaws.

Monday 21 March 2011

Update

Hi all! We are now in the middle of our Production and it's all starting to come together thanks to the animatic. There is now a fifth version up on our Vimeo for anyone interested! *click me*

HOWEVER, we only have a few weeks left until the Easter holiday and cannot relax yet! (So everyone work hard now, and then we can enjoy a nice holiday at Easter)

I'd like to see ALL scenes roughed out by next Monday! Those who brought their rough movements today must also refine these by next week. Sorry if it seems like a lot, but remember, it WILL take a while to get all the finished animation processed and coloured, so we need to get these line tests sorted quickly!

When you have your rough animation line tested, PLEASE post it on Blogger so we can critique/feedback it! It's a whole week until next Monday and because of the lessons I'm not sure if we are able to fit another meeting in, but we need to be viewing some more rough animation BEFORE THEN.

I know some of you work mostly at home because some of you live quite far away from campus, but I would like to see some of you in GO1 during this week! If possible, send me a message if you intend to be in GO1 to do line testing.

We still need watercolour paper. I'll go to Pullingers tomorrow and look for some and buy a few sheets if I find what we need, then we can maybe divide the cost between us. Me and Lukas can then start colouring the clock shots we have, and then later we'll colour in the backgrounds for the line tests (I guess Lukas should be in charge of these since he has the best idea of what they should look like).

Saturday 19 March 2011

Next Meeting!

Since it is slightly inconvenient for those in our group who don't live on campus to travel to university, I've decided to put our next meeting after the Phil Mulloy lecture on Monday. The lecture starts at 11:00 and I am putting the meeting at 2:00 in GO1.

Emelia: Bring the watercolour paper you have, also a USB and your animation work.
Oscar: Bring along the file of the newest animatic and we'll view it! Also bring your animation work.
Everyone else: Bring a USB and your animation work!
If anyone else happens to have watercolour paper or similar thick paper, then please bring it!

Tuesday 15 March 2011

Production overview and reminders for next week

Hi everyone! Here's the list of shots that we divided between us this morning, so everyone is clear about what they're doing...

Since it's an excel file I can't actually put the file itself up here, I think Blogger only takes pictures and video, so I print-screened it instead...if you click on it it becomes bigger ^^

Our next meeting will be either Monday at 2 o'clock after the Phil Mulloy lecture, or anytime Tuesday. Any preferences then write here as a comment, or else I'll just pick a day and time and let you all know when.

Stuff to do until next meeting:

Everyone must work on the shots they have chosen. For next week, we should all have completed the backgrounds (not coloured, just drawn/inked) and animated rough movement on top of them.

The last panning shot needs to be reconsidered. Lukas, give it a think and let us know your opinion (especially let Andrew know as he will be working with this background).

More sounds need to be added to the animatic to increase the feeling of it "building up".

Also, everyone should still take a look at Vida Vega's pdf-tutorials which Andy put on myuca!

Monday 14 March 2011

Animatic Version 3

Hey guys,
Animatic ver3

Me and Lukas spent a long time considering the sounds for the new animatic. It definitely gives a good feel of what our final animation will turn out like, and awesome to see things coming together. Some sounds need more consideration and some haven't even been added yet, but it's a good start to the sound design. I guess tomorrow we will cover everything that needs to be changed and finally start production! I think one major change we are going to make is making the build up at the end of the sequence more dramatic, with more ticking involved. Just generally more climactic. So yeah, see you tomorrow!

Sunday 13 March 2011

Animatic Version 2

Just uploaded the newest animatic. This version has more complete character movements and also corrected timings and movements. The next 3 sequences after the first day have been added as well, bringing it all together cohesively. I haven't added sound as I kind of had to guess what actions to show in the short time that we have in the last 3 sequences. So I want to check with Lucas to see if he thinks the right actions are shown.  Lucas is coming over tomorrow for feedback and then to put some sound on.

Right now I'm working on using after effects to put the clocks in the background of the last 3 sequences.
Animatic version 2
It's going well peoples!

Scanner Issue

Hello fellow classmates! I am experiencing problems with my scanner it seems to be working one moment then the next switches off! so on tuesday i shall test it on dragong stop motion to see the visual idea. I can't also post pictures of Oscar's character design drawings i've done....i shall show you on Monday or maybe email them to Jennifer to post them on blog...that is if she doesn't mind teeeeheeee. Later days dudez!

Friday 11 March 2011

Train Station

Good Evening, Lord and Lady Creatures!
I present to you the pencil drawing of the train station.
Why not the Inked version? Because I haven't done that yet - it's my job for the weekend. The only reason I'm uploading now, is because Jennifer asked me to. As for the rail area, I'm still trying to fix the perspective on it, so that'll be up soon.
By the way, this was drawn on an A3 sheet of paper, hence the minor issuse in the centre of the page - I only own an A4 scanner, so I had to combine it.

UPDATE

Hello everyone ^^

A few things to mention - Oscar has added a rough guide for drawing the character, view this under the Animation Bible page. We all need to practice drawing the character because we are starting the production next week!!

Number 2: Andy has added the Vida Vega tutorial that I mailed Sue about to the Unit Resources under the MSS unit. View it and read it. We won't be doing it the exact same way (with the mattes and other technical stuff), but she works slightly similar to us since she scans in watercoloured backgrounds and layers them underneath other stuff. So, please take a look at it =)

Number 3: SOUND WORKSHOP IS CANCELLED. Our next official meeting is therefore on TUESDAY 10AM in B124.

That's pretty much all, the finished animatic (!) will be on Vimeo by the end of this week, so from next week we are starting our production.

ANDREW: WE NEED YOUR TRAIN STATION DESIGNS!! Please post these under the "Background design & props"-page =)

Good work everyone ^_^

Tuesday 8 March 2011

Ok rough sketch of how lucas wanted it i shall draw up neat then post 2moro. Lemme know what else i shud add, holla at me on my cell, on here, anywhere!

Monday 7 March 2011

Vimeo! (And reminders for this weeks work schedule)

Thanks to Amber, our group now has a Vimeo account!

View us here: *click me*

We already have the first version of the Flash animatic uploaded there (thanks Oscar!) and I've posted the animation reference videos there in a seperate album. Everyone working on backgrounds for these shots should take a look! Login details are the same as for our dropbox account.

IMPORTANT: EVERYONE MUST DRAW OSCAR'S CHARACTER DESIGNS!
Look at our character design page and also the animation bible page where he has added a rough sketch showing us how to draw him!

I think most of you know what to do, but writing down just for the sake of it is this weeks schedule:

Lukas: Write notes in the animation bible. Draw Oscar's character designs, perfect them how you like them, and get used to drawing the character.

Jennifer: Work with the background layouts. Arrange on A4 so they fit in PAL format. Draw Oscar's character designs.

Oscar: Perfect the flash animatic. New draft hopefully by Wednesday. Also give me the link for the site that we can put the sound effects on so we can link it through the Sound Effects page. Another thing we need is the completed model sheets, with 3/4 back view, but focus on the animatic! Must finish by this week!!!

Amber: Car sketches, post what you have on Blogger! Draw Oscar's character designs to get used to them. Also help me out with the background layouts, I'll give you details.

Emelia: Complete living room and office designs. Draw Oscar's character designs to get used to them.

Andrew: Complete train station/railway tracks and bedroom design. Draw Oscar's character designs to get used to them.

Next official meeting will be next Monday (14th of March) in G23 (the Sound Studio for Sound Workshops!) PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS FROM 11.00 - 12:30!! NEW NOTE: This may have been cancelled!! Check myuca, Andy will send out an email!!

NOTE: We also have class on Tuesday (the 15th)! This is in B124 from 10 until 4 and we'll be having group tutorials.

Sunday 6 March 2011

Office design Take 2!

Living Room Design in Adobe Flash Take 2!

Background Design Living Room

This is background design for living room i did in Flash, very simple.

Man's bedroom v1

Good day, Lord and Lady creatures,
I present to you the first version of the sketchup model for the man's house. You may notice some things about the room aren't complete - the lack of curtains, pillows and a duvet for example. That is because I've spent a good chunk of the last week trying to make those items in Sketchup, and am now thoroughy annoyed by it, so I figured I'd just upload these to show that I have at least done some work this past week.
If I can actually work out how to make any of the other pieces, I'll add them and upload a new version.
   Until then, Goodbye!
        Andrew Stalley.

Saturday 5 March 2011

Important notice!

Next class meeting is according to the time table on MONDAY the 7th of March, in GO1, NOT on Tuesday!

So those of us who have the acting workshops have this on Tuesday again.

Hopefully Oscar will be done with the first version of the Flash animatic, so we wil be viewing this together. Bring all sketches with you so Lukas can give them feedback, and if possible, bring a USB-stick or hard drive and I'll put the animation reference videos and the animatics on them...

Hope to see you all there! =)

Friday 4 March 2011

Ok some designs but, how do i add them under the correct catorgories without doing a new post everytime! it's lame.

Thursday 3 March 2011

Update: Backgrounds, Video Reference, Tasks to be completed

Hello everyone =) In terms of the production schedule we are pretty much where we want to be, so good work everyone :D But this is a reminder that there are still a couple of things that we need doing...

Oscar is currently working on our flash animatic (thank you!), so once we have that done we are ready to start production. However, we still need to have all the backgrounds ready!

Andrew, I need you to post up all your designs for the train station and railway tracks, the stuff you have done in Google Sketchup etc.

Emelia, good work posting so far, but we will be needing some more sketches for the living room and the office after the feedback Lukas gave you on Monday.

Amber, WORK =) Post whatever you have done so far. We need more sketches for his car (it will only be a front view of the car) so it would be great if you could please work on this.

Lukas, please comment on the sketches on the blog =) (Also, did you give Oscar your notes for the animatic?)

We need to arrange the background sketches onto A4 in PAL format...I'll help out with that once I have more sketches from you, and then I'll let Lukas look at it...

NOTE: Thanks to Andrew we now also have video reference for the character movements. The way this video reference is staged is how we want the backgrounds to be set up. I'm not sure if the video reference is something I should post on the blog though...what do you think, Andrew? Since you're the one in the video :P

Sunday 27 February 2011

Some progress

Hey people.
I've uploaded a variety of sounds on to our dropbox, there are a few other things we need but it's a good start. I've uploaded the new character designs onto our character design page and also my blog. I didn't put them in the animation bible as they're not definite yet, I'll see what Lukas says and create some finished designs. I'm starting to worry about the designs and will probably do some more tonight. I'm happy with them but I wanted to make more of a variety of designs (it took longer than I expected).

See you guys tomorrow
O

Friday 25 February 2011

These are a few of the chairs i designed.
Take a peek, and give me feedback.

Living Room Design

Ok so this is my first attempt, let me know what you think and what changes
i should make to this.

Storyboard and First Version of the Animatic!

*UPDATE*

The Storyboard and Animatic are now up on our Animation Bible page =)
Maybe I should create a seperate page for the animatics? Opinions? For now, just look at it on the Animation Bible page to get an idea of the angles of the backgrounds we need created and so forth =)

*edit* Animatic won't upload, even if I get it less than 20 MB. USELESS BLOGGER. It's temporarily just on Dropbox if anyone needs it.

Wednesday 23 February 2011

Ok so this is a really rough sketch of an office, i intend to obviously make it much cleaner tommorow or by Friday afternooon.
This is just like a front view.
Car design, very simplistic.  This a rough sketch just to get an idea.

Tuesday 22 February 2011

Location Designs and research!

Hello Lord and Lady Creatures!
I present to you some research and designs in the form of a Link to my Blog!
     http://daemonstalley.blogspot.com/2011/02/animation-principles-location-design.html

Research includes: Calendar Man's cell - Batman Arkham Asylum
                                        and
Norman's Lounge - Jonathan Creek (series 2): Time waits for Norman
Work Includes everything that you saw at the meeting today.
There was supposed to be more research present -  I was going to get images of the Grandfather clock from 'Whisper of the Heart', and also some shots of personalised cubicle spaces from 'Phatasmagoria 2: A puzzle of flesh', but (A) my computers DVD drive is screwing around, and has just decided it doesn't want to play DVDs, so i couldn't get the images from 'Whisper of the Heart', and (B) there is five hours of footage from 'Phantasmagoria 2' to go through, so finding the right shots will take awhile.
A Sketchup model of the Bedroom is currently in the works.

For the time being, I bid you Adieu,
           Andrew Stalley.

Bedroom design two. I would think it's more logic to see the storyboard intially to get an idea of how the backgrounds should look in each scene but...anyways this is just a rough sketch.
bedroom design..don't like it much...so will do a new one asap!
More office research:

Background Design

Hello!

Since it's time to start drawing sketches for backgrounds and various props, I'll create a seperate page for this just like for Character Design and Research images. View it in our side bar menu =)

Please post all background sketches here, and for the time being also various props (drawings of clocks etc) unless we find it necessary to create a seperate page for this as well.

Thanks =)

Update..

Hey guys. I've put some of the research I mentioned today on my blog.. it's not much but it's something.
I also put my sketches up on my blog, then realised we had a group character dev page so I put them there too. I'll start looking at sounds....

Homework for Tuesday 22nd of February

Director:
Start the storyboarding!
(Finish the rough storyboard before Tuesday AT THE LATEST so we can all have a look at it and discuss it! Post on Blogger when done)
Comment on what we post on the blogs! (Important)

Producer and animators:
Start concept drawings for the backgrounds (= Do sketches for what you think backgrounds for each scene should look like)
Further character development
Watch movie: “Stranger than Fiction”, especially the intro. The intro is here on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLPUmYiVgbw
Also watch “Badgered” (only 7 mins, can be viewed here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2058013310900590790#)
For any of you who haven’t  yet watched “Mary & Max”, watch this!
           Keep posting progress on Blogger!

Special tasks:

Oscar:
During this week and next week, gather sound effects for the animatic
Write a list of sounds we need and post on Blogger and I’ll help search for sounds

Andrew:
In terms of location design, focus especially on the train station (unless this drives you nuts, then we'll swap xD)

Tuesday is our next meeting together in class, and as long as we all remember to update on Blogger, it shouldn't be necessary to have a meeting before then.

Summary of the Meeting 16th of February

We looked at Lukas’ developed script. Talked about a couple of issues with it (Delayed – too obvious title? And to write EVEN clearer what happens. Andrew has already fixed the script though, thank you so much! Is posted below)

Reminder of what style the director wants:

Black and white with a few small bits of colour, mainly red.
Ink the lines and colour in with watercolours, but not a lot of colour in the watercolours.

Animations to watch for style reference:

“Mary & Max”. Hope you have already seen it for Wednesday though. Can be found to watch online on Megavideo.

“Badgered”. Dark watercolours, we (Lukas) want a similar style, but which still has less colour.

Also, not for style reference, but for inspiration about the idea itself, watch “Stranger than Fiction”, especially the intro. Is in many ways similar to our scenario.

Character Design style:

Clothes: Business man shirt + tie (not bowtie)

Face etc: Bald or partly bald. Body shape – not fat, not too thin. Bodyshape – not too short, and you can tell where his hips are (so not like a stick).

Maybe wears glasses, but in that case with eyes showing through.

Oscar did a good design for the body shape (number 24), he's posted this on our Character Design web page, so let's further develop this.

Tips for background design. Location – Bedroom:

Open, nice, bland bedroom. Double bed. Good lighting, big windows. Clean. Clocks around the room. Slippers next to bed. Nightstand table next to bed with an old school digital alarm clock with red writing on it.

Tips for background design. Location – At work:

Generic office. “Cubicle”, four walls. Has a clock on the wall. Has desk with computer. Telephone sounds etc ringing. Think “The Incredibles” – Mr. Incredible’s job at a desk or in “The Matrix” – Neo in his office “cubicle” with all his colleges’ offices right next door.

Tips for prop design – Car:

Average black car. Volvo? Slightly depressing looking car (bland, not shabby, not too fancy).
---

That's basically it. I'll put tasks to be completed for next Tuesday in the next post ^^

Script!

Good eve, Lord and Lady creatures.
I do bless you with the updated script that I wrote.

ive posted an updated version of the script on my blog

Train Station Concept... Kinda

Hello Lord and Lady Creatures!
I give you my first contribution to this site and project: A Train Station design!
Admittidaly, this is not actually new - I designed it over the summer for a completely differnt (and failed) project, but it is usable if needed. I am well aware that this is a 3D model, and we said we'd use 2D, but it would be simple to just grab screenshots and use those. I am also aware that there are no rails next to this station - i never added them in.
I will, of course, continue to do research in the mean time on train stations, so I will come up with alternate designs -  I just thought it may be useful to say this already exists.
     Heres the link: http://daemonstalley.blogspot.com/2011/02/group-work-train-station-design.html
Hopefully I'll have basic character designs and research up and ready by this evening, or tomorrow morning.
I bid you Adieu.
   Andrew Stalley.

First Draft of the Script

Here is our first draft for the animation script, provided by our director, Lukas. This will go through thorough editing during the script development tutorial we are having with Ron on Monday 14th of February.

The script:

Idea
Delayed – working title

A fairly respectable looking middle aged man lives his life perfectly on time and in routine. He lives in a large house with all that would be expected, except for a increased amount of clocks, calenders and timetables scattered around it. He wakes up at exactly 7.30 everyday, he puts his slippers on at 7.35 everyday, he has a shower at 7.50 everyday, etc. His mundane routine unfolds over several days; always on time and never changing.

It cuts to the face of an analogue clock just as it is about to hit 12. It is revealed that this is the point of view of the man as he checks the time; he stands next to a railway line in his best suite.

              Man
         perfect timing

He calmly lays down on the railway track and waits silently.

It cuts to an empty train station, the only movement from a few plastic bags floating in the wind. The camera focus' on an electronic timetable that hangs from the ceiling . A woman’s voice begins to speak through the stations loudspeakers.

              Woman’s voice
'I am sorry to announce that all trains heading east to      London Victoria have been delayed by 1 hour due to           scheduling problems, we are sorry for the inconvenience'.

The electronic timetable changes to read delayed and it cuts to black.
The man sighs.

End
