End of Easter Break

Hi all! It's now the end of Easter break and the deadline is only a week away (Monday 9th)!

Our next lesson is Tuesday the 3rd, 10:00 in B124, for pre-assessment tutorials. We are going to spend the day editing, and the rest of the week. The library have extended opening hours next weekend but we should aim for completion at Friday at the latest.

Lukas, Andrew and Amber: Bring ALL your files on Tuesday, preferably on your laptops.

Since it's a public holiday on Monday, the library will be shut, but me, Lukas and Andrew will meet up for editing (and whoever else wants to come along).

Andrew, the rough edit needs to have been done! If you bring your laptop when we meet up on Monday I can also help you masking the character in AE. I'm back in Norway now so I can send you a message with time and place.

Office scenes coloured.

Greetings Lord and Lady Creatures,

Figured it'd be best to post this here - The two office scenes are now complete.
There are still faults with the scene, but we are running out of time now - if we spend too long perfecting scenes, then we won't have anything to hand in.
The colour for the bathroom door is done - i used the light grey for the mans shirt to colour the door, and the rouser grey to colour the man in the symbol. I have asked Jen if she can produce a watercolour background, because we all seemed to forget that scene had a background.

On editing:
If you did your scene in aftereffects, send me the quicktime for the movie. If you followed my specifications, then I need those images now.
As it stands, I have four complete scenes - the two office scenes, the eating scene, and the man lowering his watch. I have five clocks with times (three for the nightstand, to for microwave), and two without times (the car radio and the computer monitor).
In other words, I'm missing three quarters of the footage.
I know Jen said you had until today to do the colouring, but I would like to simply remind you that we have nine days left.
So, simply put, please upload that footage as quickly as possible. When you upload the footage to Dropbox, please notify me through text, or by commenting on this entry.

Important note!

Good day, Lord and Lady creatures!
When you are colouring, or if you are still scanning your frames, please leave in the holes at the bottom of the sheet, even after removing the background or whatever - this is simply a way of making the compillation of frames easier, as it's simply a matter of overlaying the holes in flash. If you have already removed these holes from the frames, if you would kindly add markers onto the bottom of the sheets where the holes should be.
And to answer the questions that may spring to your mind, no, you won't be able to see the holes in the final film, since the bottom part of each sheet of paper does not fit into the aspect ratio. And the reason that I have only just decided to mention this is because I didn't think I would have to, as I viewed this as common sense. The I just realised that what I deem common sense may seem strange to others.

If you are still scanning, If you would kindly take into consideration the following:
  • Scan in Black and white
  • Scan at 200dpi
  • Do not scan at 1024 by 576 - leave the aspect ratio alone when scanning.

When you are colouring:
  • Scale the image to 1024 by 736 - DO NOT CROP THE IMAGE TO FIT THE ASPECT RATIO!
  • Leave the holes in the bottom of the paper.
  • Save as a PNG file, to keep transpancy

If you have already done all of this, Thank you.
If you haven't done this, if you would kindly do so, I would be very grateful.

Yours sincerely,
   Andrew Stalley.

Update! What to do in the Easter break...

Hi all, hope you're enjoying your holiday!

Here's how we stand so far in the production:

So we only have the colouring left, and of course the editing. All shots MUST BE COLOURED BEFORE THE 30TH OF APRIL!

As soon as you complete your shot, stick the files on Dropbox and give Andrew a mail or text message as he will assemble the basic edit. Lukas will then continue working with the edit on the 1st or 2nd of May.

Amber, Lukas and Andrew, if you have any issues with the colouring, just send me an email!

Colouring Tutorial!

The colouring tutorial I mentioned is up, and under a seperate page called...Colouring Tutorial (surprise) ^^

So take a look, those of you who are going to be colouring =)

Group meeting

Hi again!

Next group meeting will be this Thursday and will probably be our last group meeting together before the Easter holiday!

Since we have our digital skills deadline between 10:00 and 10:30 we will have our meeting at 11:00 in GO1.

It will probably be a short meeting but it's important to show up so we can go through one last time the stuff that needs doing in the Easter holiday.

See you all there (and good luck with digital skills!)!

Colouring!

Hi, here are just some suggestions for colouring....

Should we have the lines all black? Or slightly brown/grey, not completely black so they will blend better with the watercolour backgrounds since they are quite subtle...

Also, I know we are colouring them mainly flat with the paintbucket tool, but it would be great to layer some texture over the top, it's quite easy and makes a huge difference!

Example (untextured and black lines on the top, textured skin with slightly grey line art on the bottom...also not final colours, just something I picked to test out):

If we use textures, I have a few I've already saved from cropping out bits of the watercolour paper, which I can send to everyone doing colouring.

PS: I know my monitor is really dark so I have no idea what this looks like on anyone else's monitor... =/

Also, Lukas, I need the colour chart up NOW >_<

But I'm guessing something like this? (again, who knows, this might look terrible on another monitor...):

An Apology...

Hello Lord and Lady Creatures!
....I have an apology to make. I am afraid that, due to my own stupidity and fault, I did not have the frames I was supposed to bring in for the last few seconds of animation. I am so sorry for this - I did bring in the frames I did to fix the problems, but I didn't bring the others - I kinda forgot I had kept those to fix them. I am extremely sorry for this.
I also have to apologise to Oscar, because apparently the hands keep vanishing. Sorry for that.
If you wish me to do anything else for compensation for this, feel free - I did just kinda screw up the schedule.
However, on the subject of animation, I will be adding every piece of animation I have done for this project on my blog tomorrow. And another note on that - I did add the extra frames for the door, but it now looks worse. It'll be on my blog tomorrow, so go view it then (best go check in the afternoon).

    Apologies again,
       Andrew.

Next week

Hi everyone,

Next week we have class on Monday at 10:00 in B124.

Emelia, please bring all your papers =)
Oscar, remember to bring the stuff you've inked so we can finally get going on the colouring!

See you all there!

By the way, this is approximately how far we've got (Oscar has already inked some of this, and Andrew is basically done with his scenes, so we have come further than it looks, BUT there's still all the colouring to do! Hope the chart makes sense...):

Next meeting!

Hi all! Next group meeting will be THURSDAY at 11:00 in Go1.

Until then, please keep working on your line tests and bring all your finished paper on Thursday so Oscar can take it and ink it for next Monday.

It's only 1 1/2 more weeks until Easter so we have to work hard now to finish all line tests and inking before the holiday starts!
