The Animation Bible

This page is our interactive Animation Bible (where we will post all our finished stuff)!
So look out here for the finished character design, character turn-around-sheets, various notes and other useful information =)

*Edit*
According to the Animation Course Team's (Andy's?) comment on our blog, the animation bible is to tell the Animation Team (us!) just how the film is supposed to be. This means Lukas' input on this page is super important for us to look at...so I hope he will put up some useful notes about the visual style we want, etc etc.

THE SCRIPT

BLACK SCREEN.
After a second of darkness, we hear the piercing sound of an alarm clock sounding.
CUT TO:

Int. MAN’S HOUSE/ BEDROOM.
A shot of the face of a digital alarm clock standing on a bed side table, showing the time 07:30. A respectable looking man lies in the bed, and opens his eyes, instantly awake. His expression is instantly miserable.
From here on, whenever a time is mentioned, we cut to a shot of the clock, showing the appropriate time. There is now the constant sound of a clock ticking in background.
07.35. A shot of the Man’s foot as it slides into his slippers.

Int. MAN’S HOUSE/ BATHROOM.
He has a shower at 7.50 - show a shot of the showerhead.

Int. MAN’S HOUSE/ KITCHEN
8.20, a shot of a toaster, as he puts in two slices of bread.

Ext. MAN’S HOUSE/ DRIVEWAY
08.35. Now outside, the man enters his car.

Int. WORK/ MAN’S DESK
09.00. The man walks to his desk, and sits down. He looks miserable.

Int. WORK/ HALLWAY
13.15 A shot of the men’s toilet door. We hear a flush from within.

Int. WORK/ MAN’S DESK
17.30. We see a shot of the man at his desk. A group of co-workers then walk by talking, although we hear no dialogue, it is just the illusion of conversation.
Then the Man gets up and leaves.

Ext. MAN’S HOUSE/ DRIVEWAY
17.55. The man’s car pulls into the drive, and he steps out, walking towards the house.

Int. MAN’S HOUSE/ KITCHEN
18.10 A shot of the microwave. The man presses several buttons, and the timer flashes up with 3.00, and the counts down.

Int. MAN’S HOUSE/ LIVING ROOM.
The man is sitting in a chair, eating his meal whilst watching TV.

Int. MAN’S HOUSE/ BEDROOM.
21.30. The man, now in bed clothes, gets into the bed.
21.45. A shot of the man asleep, snoring gently.

The sequences repeat at a slightly faster pace for another four times, speeding up slightly. The ticking speeds up as well, becoming more intense.
After the man falls asleep on the fifth day, we
 CUT TO:

The face of a simple analogue clock, just as it hits 12.00. The sound of ticking stops.
Cut to:

Ext. RAIL SIDE

The man stands at an open area of rail, completely devoid of any other life, checking his watch. He nods to himself.
MAN
Perfect timing.

He drops his arm, and lies down on the rails, looking up to the sky.
For a few seconds, the scene remains motionless, as he lies there, silently.
CUT TO.
Ext. TRAIN STATION.
Panning shot of an empty train station. A few plastic bags move in the breeze.
      CUT TO:
A shot of a hanging electronic timetable. A Woman’s voice sounds in the distance.
Tanoy
'I am sorry to announce that all trains heading east to London Victoria have been delayed by 1 hour due to scheduling problems. We apologize for the inconvenience'.

CUT TO BLACK.

We hear the man sigh, as the sound of the ticking begins again.

NOTES:

VISUAL STYLE:

We want our animation to have a watercolour effect to it, similar to animated shorts like "Badgered".

TECHNIQUE:

We are first drawing the scenes on A4 just like a normal line test. Then we are going to ink each frame and then batch scan them with the batch scanners in GO1. Then we are going to colour them in Photoshop (perhaps first vectorizing in Illustrator) using different brushes to bring out a watercolour-like texture.

The backgrounds are going to be inked and watercoloured by hand using thicker paper, then scanned in and layered underneath the animated frames using blending modes in After Effects.
